Self-Branding time!

As all graphic designers do alike...we all someday have to present ourself in form of self-branding to promote our speciality or skills in doing multimedia or design (duh) related work. This is for our portfolio or resumes as we say, own company. Plus it helps client to evaluate how awesome we are (or not).

For me my own company logo serves as my own trademark, identity and telling others that you are a graphic designer and you are ready to do the task given by others on works you're have expertise on.

For this I have come out with few designs. Without further ado...

Ideas for Logo..

I've managed to pop out 4 of these babies for her to choose. I personally like the 3rd and the 4th logo design. Luckily, out of these she actually liked those that I've liked...so she ask me to improve on either one.

Made up my mind, I decided to choose the 4th one because it looks more funky to me yet not cliche with too many words boggling around...and she ask me to do few templates of em in different colour so she can choose which one that looks nice and presentable.

Walaaaaah! Should be nice to make stickers out of it...

Bam! Sticker bomb anyone? Hahaha. I honestly like ALL of these and I'm planning to make a sticker! See if my budget permits...

So far, so good! Till then...

Posters...again!

Last week, Ms. Queenie asked me and three other friends of mine in class to design the final poster for our upcoming Vertex exhibition. Yes all of us have designed the poster as seen in the last post but this one she specifically ask 4 of us to design another one.

Honestly saying, my brain wasn't churning out ideas that much but I hope it will be chosen. *prays*

The reason why its a little hard to design is due to the weirdly shaped V logo (Vertex, mind you) is not entirely design-friendly enough for me. Maybe because of its "corporate" looking style. I don't know. But well...here goes.

Design 5
Design 5 was designed with simplicity in mind. Played with colours and contrast on the boxes. Wanted to make it as straightforward as it can be without being too fancy and too fussy on the wording.
Design 6

Design 6...hahaha. I got the idea after doing some research on design. Since not many are doing these types of design I decided to come out with this one. Straightforward...but trying to be creative by using the road signage. This is probably the weirdest looking one of all designs but hey...its not wrong to think outside the box.

Till then...

Poster-ific post...

Sup peeps. As the title mentioned, our team have to come out with a poster for our exhibition. Lately I'm lacking ideas on how to do it but I guess I managed to pull it off. Still recovering from last month's Kancil Award thing that we have to do.  But there's not much time left, so I have to rush a few things by now!

Caiyok!

Kancil Award

I'm sure most of you designers or media students have heard of Kancil Awards before. It's a yearly event held , to attest to the pride in recognizing home-grown Malaysian creative excellence in advertising, and to further underscore the industry's endorsement of the highest standards of creativity.

Some info for you. Kancil Awards are known as the most largest and most prestigious advertising awards competition, and you can see top advertising company like Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi are battling out their stakes to get the win.

They have a category called Kancil Student Awards. I won't go much blabbering about this, read it up HERE to understand what we have to do.

So for the rest of September, me and my groupmate Azmi and Aaron have to take up a task on how to help older people or parents to use smartphone. After much discussion from higher college authority and certain critics, we decided to do ambience advertising.

We managed to come out with few designs. Without further ado, here goes:

Magazine Ambience

Magazine Ambience

Mail Ambience

Traffic Jam Ambience

Lift Ambience

I'm very proud of what me and my group has achieved to do this. Hopefully we get to win something, though honestly we are not hoping for anything. The most beneficial thing we gained from this is experience.

Thanks to lecturer and others for the kind help.

Hello again, logo.

And here comes the second part where I managed to improve my design and come up with another idea.

Idea #3
Basically an improved version of Idea #1 where I changed the colours, effect and the overall impact to the logo.

I've decided to change the colour to a more monotone hue, to make it look more professional. Can be improved with brushed chrome effect to enhance the "wow" effect on the logo.
Idea #4

This is my favorite design of all and I really hope it get chosen. I got my inspiration from the 70's style retro and 80's pixel style where everything is funky and colourful.

I decided to go against the usual triangle shape where vertex is usually associated and use square shaped typography instead. The idea here is that designing can be fun and doesn't necessarily mean you have to stuck with one meaning.

So here you go, my second post on logos. Hopefully either one of these will get chosen by the respective lecturer.

Logo Designing...

Here's some of the brain-killing ideas I've come up with. Might come up with few more ideas or improve the current design.

Idea #1

The above designed logo was inspired by the shape of vertex angle, where it means "two line segments join or meet, where two lines intersect (cross), or any appropriate combination of rays, segments and lines that result in two straight "sides" meeting at one place."

In order to enhance the meaning I decided to come out with a triangle-shape designed typography logo. The colours represent the variety of ideas and nature of graphic design where each of us have a different creative idea and mindset.

Idea #2

The second logo was more towards simplicity and minimalism. I created a V-shaped logo complete with triangle on top. The red colour in the V represents IACT (because IACT primary colour is red) and the black represent the vertex point.

And if you look at different angle the V-shaped logo actually looks like a Tick  or known as Check Mark (). In the logo it means "we have reached a point where our work is done and is ready to be showcased to the public or client."
Hopefully this gives you some insight on the meaning and where I got the inspiration from.

What is Vertex?

From dictionary:

    vertex
    noun /ˈvərˌteks/
    vertexes, plural; vertices, plural

    1. The highest point; the top or apex

      • The crown of the head

        • Each angular point of a polygon, polyhedron, or other figure

          • A meeting point of two lines that form an angle

            • The point at which an axis meets a curve or surface

For me vertex represents the angle where a two line meets. It usually looks like triangle, so most of my design will have triangle-shaped typography or logo to justify the meaning of vertex. Plus when you utter the word vertex, it sounds edgy when you say it. Something sharp and pointy.

In order to translate it into visual, check the next post on logo design.
